This series draws on a moment from the life of King David (1 Chronicles 29:10–19). As David prepared for his son Solomon to build the temple, he called Israel’s leaders to give toward it, and they gave with great joy. David then gave generously from his own wealth. Even a king, David said, he is only a stranger passing through this earth. God is eternal, but human life is brief and nobody can prevent the inevitable hour of death. Since all things come from God and life is brief, the wisest thing we can do is give back what He gives to us and make an investment in the eternal.
