Series: Meet the Captain

1. In part two of this passage, Jairus “pleads” with Jesus to touch his daughter to heal her (Mark 5: 23). Moments later, a woman’s touch of Jesus healed her. In Matthew 9:25, Jesus simply takes Jairus’s daughter’s hand and she was healed. Why do you think touch is so important here? What about His touch brings healing?

2. Jairus’s little girl was brought back to life. The truth is, of course, that she would eventually die again. When Jesus raises people from the dead during His earthly ministry (3 times total), He is pointing to the ultimate fact that all who trust Him will be resurrected (John 5:28-29). So, the deeper truth here is all of life, and even death, He holds in His hands. What does trusting God, even when we don’t see Him at work, look like to you now?

3. When Jesus “awakens” her, he tells them to “give her something to eat.” As He heals, He also cares about what’s next for us. For the little girl, it was making sure she was given what she needed to move forward – practical, real. He knows, He cares, and He’s proactive about our everyday. Where do you need to be reminded He is invested in your “everyday”? How easy is it for you to trust Him with today, right now, and tomorrow?
