June 2010 Update

The APNC is continuing its discussions with a short list of pastors who are being considered to lead the discipleship ministries of St. Andrew’s.  We have not yet identified the candidate we will present to the congregation as our nominee; consequently, we do not have a date that the new Associate Pastor will start.  The position is, however, still included in the 2010 budget.  If you have questions, please feel free to speak to any of the committee members, or email us at .

Please join your hearts with ours in prayer as we open ourselves to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

May 2010 Update

The members of the APNC continue to be blessed by our face-to-face meetings and telephone conversations with several gifted pastors who are being considered for our Associate Pastor position.  We are acutely aware of the need to fill this position; at the same time, we recognize the importance of identifying the right person for the job.

We ask that you pray for the committee, as well as for the men and women who are considering their response to God’s call.  Your prayers are an important part of our communal endeavor to discern the will of God.

March 2010 Update

The APNC is continuing to conduct telephone interviews, and has begun meeting face-to-face with a “short list” of pastors that we have determined are potentially a good fit for St. Andrew’s.  Through these meetings, we are prayerfully seeking to discern God’s will for the church, and for those pastors and their families as they consider a new call.  We often are reminded to be still, trusting that God is in control of the process.

We appreciate your prayers, and ask that you continue to lift us up before our Lord Jesus Christ, the head of the church.

January 2010 Update

The APNC has begun conducting telephone interviews with the pastors whose Personal Information Forms (PIFs) most closely match the criteria for our Associate Pastor position.  At the same time, we are continuing to receive and review PIFs, and contacting people who have been recommended to us.

Pastors across the country have expressed interest in this call.   It has been fascinating to see the breadth and depth of the gifts God has given the men and women he has called to vocational ministry.  We are confident that the Holy Spirit will lead us to the person God has chosen to serve at St. Andrew’s, and we humbly ask that you keep us in your prayers as we narrow our list.

Calling an Associate Pastor

Following the process required by the Presbyterian Church (USA) and the Los Ranchos Presbytery, the St. Andrew’s congregation elected the Associate Pastor Nominating Committee (APNC) members on October 18, 2009, to identify a nominee for the Associate Pastor of Relational Discipleship.  Our job is to screen the prospective pastors thoroughly and make a recommendation; the congregation’s job is to vote on our nominee.

We take our responsibility seriously, understanding that calling a pastor is very different than hiring an employee in a secular workplace.  It is participating in God’s own choice for St. Andrew’s, and we are opening ourselves to the work of the Holy Spirit as we seek to discern God’s will for the church.

We approach our task prayerfully and ask that you keep both the APNC and the prospective pastors in prayer.

December 2009 Update

The APNC began its work by developing the mandatory Church Information Form (CIF) – the Presbyterian version of a job description.  The position description is in line with the Visioning Together report and subsequent Implementation Team reports.

The CIF was posted on the PC(USA) Church Leadership Connection website on December 2, 2009, and we have begun reviewing Personal Information Forms (PIFs) – the Presbyterian equivalent of a resume – from pastors whose information came through the denomination’s automated matching process, as well as pastors who are applying for the position directly.

We invite you to recommend pastors for the position.  You can ask a prospective pastor to submit a PIF to the committee; you also can send an email to us at , or contact one of the APNC members.  Because we intend to honor the confidential nature of this process, we will not be able to provide information on the status of any prospective pastors.
