Response to Hurricane Harvey

August 31, 2017 0 Share

Dear St. Andrew’s Family,

The images and stories coming out of Texas this week are heartbreaking and remind us that God must be our ultimate refuge and strength. The scope and devastation of Hurricane Harvey are so great that many of you likely know someone who has been personally affected by the disaster. Our hearts and prayers are with them and all those who have been impacted.

Over the last few days, St. Andrew’s staff has been in touch with the leadership of our ECO denomination and friends at First Presbyterian Houston (Jim Birchfield, Sr. Pastor), Memorial Park Presbyterian, and First Presbyterian of Rockport, asking how we can best support relief efforts. Based on their guidance, St. Andrew’s Send Ministry has made an initial donation from our Disaster Relief fund to World Renew, an ECO partner that is supporting recovery efforts in Texas. Click Here to learn more about World Renew and to receive regular updates on their response to the crisis. In the meantime, there are several ways you can respond…

Pray: Lord, give peace and protection for all civilians and emergency responders. May the storm waters recede quickly and may vital services be reestablished so that the injured can receive medical care, the homeless might find shelter, and the heartbroken can be comforted. May You be glorified as Your people respond with Christ-like love and generosity.

Give: If you feel a conviction to give financially through St. Andrew’s, you may do so online, www.sapres.org/give-back/donate. You will also have an opportunity to donate during this weekend’s service. Please note “Harvey Disaster Relief” on your donation so it can be directed accordingly.

Go: For those interested in traveling to the Houston area and serving alongside First Presbyterian Houston, please coordinate with the church directly. Click Here for more info.

Thank you for your care and concern for the victims of Hurricane Harvey. This is a tragic disaster, but we trust that God will be glorified through the loving response of His people. We will remain in contact with the ministries noted above and share any additional steps we take to support the relief effort.

Thankfully,

Dan Wendell
Minister of Missions and Outreach Ministries
